The original anime series of Space Battleship Yamato (also known as: Star Blazers) was screening on Japanese TV some 40 years ago (see the video opening theme clip later to get an idea of how dated the original series feels today). Japanese friends of mine have recalled how they grew up with this series and would hurry home after finishing school to watch the latest episodes of Space Battleship Yamato and other classics like Astro Boy and Space Adventure Cobra
